What Is A Vampire Facial?

A vampire facial is a combination of microneedling Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from the whole blood after it has been processed by spinning in a centrifuge to remove the red cells. The PRP is a greater concentration of growth factors than the whole blood itself. These growth factors are what our cells make that can help tissue heal and repair, which means it can help with a wide variety of healing treatments. This procedure has recently become popular thanks to exposure from Kim Kardashian West, who had a vampire facial performed during the filming of her hit reality show co-starring her sister Kourtney Kardashian.

A Vampire Facial is performed by a cosmetic surgeon, not Edward from Twilight. With that said, you should always evaluate your surgeon performing the procedure and not just go with the cheapest deal on Groupon. At My Med Spa LA, we have top notch plastic surgeons who have been performing Vampire Facials for years and can treat you without damaging your face.

PRP combined with Microneedling for Facial Wrinkles and Acne (Vampire Facelift)

PRP has other uses in addition to facial rejuvenation.  The PRP can be combined with microneedling or lasers such as Erbium or CO2 to deliver the PRP where it is needed.  The Platelets and other molecules in your blood will stimulate production of new collagen, elastin and other molecules that will make your skin younger, smoother and more taut.

Benefits of Vampire Facelift with PRP

  • Correction of wrinkles

  • Improvement of texture

  • Improvement of blood supply

  • Improvement in skin elasticity

  • Droopiness of skin

The PRP injections can help stimulate collagen. Combined with microneedling, the treatment can result in scar reduction, correction of sun damage, and minimizing fine lines and pores. And because the PRP is coming out of your own bod, there are less risks of side effects! However, patients who have blood disorders or take blood thinners should skip this type of procedure.

Other PRP Treatments

PRP for Hair Loss PRP has been show to be an excellent therapy for thinning and falling hair.  The PRP will be injected with a numbing medicine into the areas of thinning hair.  The PRP will stimulate your body to increase blood supply and cells responsible for healing of cells.  These together will provide nutrition to the hair follicles and stimulate hair growth.  Studies show that a significantly less hair falls out even after the first therapy of PRP.  We recommend 6-8 treatments initially and then maintenance every 6 months.   PRP for knee injury or ankle injury PRP became popular when Kobe Bryant used it to treat his knee and ankle in a medical center in Germany.  Since then, many professional athletes use PRP injections to treat injuries such as injured tendons and sprained knees. PRP offers a faster recovery than alternative procedures and therapies, and many patients experience a reduction in pain and thickening cartilage indicative of the healing process. PRP may even help to prevent a need for surgery. Another use for PRP includes treatment for hair loss, as the essential proteins within PRP stimulate hair growth. Especially when combined with other treatments, PRP may help to reverse hair loss and increase hair fullness
